Destination: Sydney Opera House

Inspiration: Alan Cumming emailed me that he was in Sydney too and invited me to his show at the Sydney Opera House

Actualization: When Alan told me he had tickets for me to the Sydney Opera House, I couldn’t believe my luck!  The Sydney Opera House is the image I used in my birthday email announcing my trip to Australia.  The SOH was mentioned to me in countless emails as a MUST for Sydney. How perfect that I got to experience it watching a friend on stage!!  The fact that the show was a huge success and entertaining down to the last second was a BONUS.

“I Bought a Blue Car Today”, Alan Cumming’s one man show, was described by Sydney’s Timeout as brilliant:

As a singer, Cumming shimmies a fine line between bravado and modesty, and within the first few minutes of his opening number it was clear he was not planning on doing anything by halves. Marry this vitality with a cavalcade of quirky anecdotes and a brilliant sense of comic timing and you have yourself a little piece of vaudevillian wonder packaged up in one hell of a sexy Scotsman.”

I combined moments and did a Markus Anderson moment – “First on the list is my dearest Gilda “what a top chick” Bresic…she is fuckin crazy and the loveliest (and loudest!) aussie bird alive!!” Gilda met me at the show where we shared a bottle of pink champagne and she was definitely lovely and loud-great for a comedy show!

Gilda described Alan the best: “you just can’t help but love him!”

My favorite part of the show was hearing about Alan’s life and the journey that brought him where he is today…every story trickled with hilarious quotes. My jaw dropped when he said his life changed when he moved to America at 30. So fitting to everything that’s been happening for me in the last year!  Saturn Return 🙂 Slipslopslap…thanks Alan!

Realization: quoting Alan(in a southern lesbian accent): “If wishes were fishes we’d all take a swim”.  I’m on the swim of a lifetime in the most beautiful waters in the world….thank you fairy godmother Alan!
